Introduction to the Western Australia Chinese Library

The Western Australia Chinese Library, established on May 20, 2021, is beautifully situated on Bennett Street in East Perth. Nestled amidst the bustling business center, it offers a serene escape with the picturesque blue Swan River in front. As the first non-profit Chinese library in Western Australia, it houses a vast collection of traditional Chinese cultural classics, a variety of contemporary children’s books, and extensive Chinese language learning resources.

This library not only provides the Western Australian Chinese community with a space and opportunity to read Chinese books but also offers a diverse range of English translations of Chinese cultural works for Australian locals, helping them understand and explore the profound Chinese civilization. Readers can delve into Chinese history, ancient literature, philosophy, sociology, calligraphy, painting, cultural customs, business economics, architecture, biographies of famous Chinese figures, martial arts, traditional Chinese medicine, culinary arts, travel geography, modern literature, and language studies. The library also boasts a rich selection of unique children’s books, pop-up books, bilingual young adult literature, classic comics, and comprehensive Chinese language learning resources.

Besides offering a space for browsing and borrowing books, the library provides community service and social practice opportunities for local vocational and high school students. It regularly hosts various multicultural events such as themed bilingual lectures, bilingual parent-child reading sessions, Chinese conversation exchanges, book signings by Australian children’s authors, Chinese tea ceremonies, photography exhibitions, Tai Chi classes, calligraphy workshops, and clay craft sessions to promote cultural exchange, spread Chinese culture, and support Chinese language education. The library is currently collaborating with local Australian schools to promote Chinese culture, using the library as an extracurricular base for students to experience and explore Chinese culture through a series of activities. Local English children’s authors will also participate in parent-child reading projects, reading with children and enjoying the charm of bilingual reading and multicultural experiences. The Western Australia Chinese Library is committed to contributing to Australia’s multiculturalism.

We warmly welcome all who are passionate about Australia-China friendship, multiculturalism, and reading to join our Western Australia Chinese Library family.
